How to Store and Care for your Video Tapes

How to Store and Care for your Video Tapes

Like me, you may have dozens of video tapes that you’ve got stored somewhere. Perhaps stored in your TV cabinet or spare room, or perhaps in the garage or shed out the back? It’s important to know how to store your old video tapes and care for them, to ensure they don’t deteriorate and become unwatchable. Don’t be like many others and store your tapes in the hot dusty garage, or in the damp cellar where mould can grow. Mouldy Tapes on the rise

Mouldy Tapes on the rise

As time goes on, more and more old VHS, Beta and camcorder video tapes will be showing signs of age. While initially it may only look like small particles of white or grey ‘dust’ resting on the tape reel, this can quickly develop into full blown mouldy tapes, rendering your videos unwatchable and your memories lost. Mould will even grow on tapes stored correctly, so don’t assume that yours will be immune from the common signs of age. At-home cleaning of mouldy tapes can involve opening the...

Adelaide switches to digital TV

Adelaide switches to digital TV

The analogue television signal was officially switched off yesterday morning in Adelaide at 9am. Did you notice? No!? Other areas in Australia will be following the move soon – Tasmania on 9th April and Perth on 16th April. Why switch? There are a few reasons why Australia is making the switch to digital TV. Firstly, digital TV gives you the ability to watch TV in high definition quality, which looks great on the latest LCD and flat screen TVs. There are also more free-to-air channel available on digital (such at 7Mate, Go, GEM and ONE HD, and ABC 2), as well as an electronic program guide which gives up to date programming information. If you still have an older analogue television, you will require a digital set top box to receive the digital television picture. The Government has a great website on...
