Our turnaround time depends on 2 things: how big your job is, and our current workload at the time.
For most jobs, the turnaround time is around 1 week (5 business days). For 6 - 12 video tapes, it may take around 1 - 2 weeks, and for 20 - 30 tapes it may take around 4 - 6 weeks to complete.
For urgent jobs we offer a priority service, where your job jumps to the head of the queue for immediate attention. For most small conversion jobs, this would be same- or next-day service. Our priority service incurs a surcharge of $45 for jobs under $200, or a 25% surcharge of the total cost for jobs over $200.
Our Standard video tape conversion rate is $35 for the first half hour of each tape, then $25 per half hour thereafter. This includes a high quality transfer process, DVD chapter points every 5 minutes, and a personalised DVD menu, cover and label.
Additional DVD copies can be purchased for $10 each (good as a backup or to share with family & friends).
The total conversion cost depends upon the duration of footage on each tape, and we cannot always give an exact estimate of costs if the duration of footage on the tape is unknown. If you know the length of your tape, you can work out a rough conversion cost using the following table:
| Duration of footage (minutes) | Cost |
|---|---|
| 0 - 30 | $35 |
| 31 - 45 | $47.50 |
| 46 - 60 | $60 |
| 61 - 75 | $72.50 |
| 76 - 90 | $85 |
| 91 - 105 | $97.50 |
| 106 - 120 | $110 |
| 121 - 135 | $122.50 |
| 136 - 150 | $135 |
| 151 - 165 | $147.50 |
| 166 - 180 | $160 |
We are able to convert the following types and formats of video tapes to DVD:
We can also convert and handle virtually any format of digital video files, including:
Our video tape conversion service will usually give a slight improvement in quality for many video tapes, and we optimise our equipment for each tape to give the best possible conversion quality. Using professional video equipment that stabilises the picture and boosts the brightness or colour of the video, we are able to offer a better quality result than is generally achievable from a domestic VCR or VHS/DVD combo recorder. These adjustments are all included free of charge in our video conversion service.
If the video is of poor quality or in bad condition, there may not be much that can be done to improve the quality of the footage.
Advanced and more complex enhancements come under our video editing service, which is charged at $99 per hour, charged in 15 minute blocks. More information on Video Editing »
In most cases we are able to fix snapped or scrunched-up tapes and cracked cassette shells. A tape repair will usually cost around $30, but will depend upon the amount of damage to the tape, and the amount of work needed to fix it.
Tapes with dust on the outside are usually fine to convert, as we'll brush the dust off them. We are unable to convert excessively dirty or mouldy tapes, as dirt and mould can damage the fragile components in our equipment.
If you can't remember what's on your tapes (this easily happens if you haven't watched your videos for 10 or 15 years!) we're happy to pop a tape into one of our video players to confirm it contains the footage that you want. An additional charge will apply for longer viewing sessions over 5 minutes (usually between $20 - $60).
Big Egg Media offer all types of video editing services, and we are able to work with you to edit your videos. We are able to cut and re-order footage, add titles, images and special effects, and add background music to play behind your video. Our video editing service is charged at $99 per hour, charged in 15 minute blocks, with a minimum charge of $50.
Yes, Big Egg Media can convert your tapes to digital video files, enabling you to edit them on your own computer. Video files are higher in quality and easier to edit than a standard DVD video.
Just supply us with your own external USB or FireWire hard drive in either Mac or Windows NTFS format, and we will copy the converted files on to your drive.
